I've recently been very encouraged by a Shane & Shane song based on Psalm 90, called “Satisfy Us With Your Love.”1 The prayer of Moses, sung in this song, really echoed in my heart:
Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives. (Psalm 90:14)
The song reworked this prayer in the following lyrics:
When the sun comes up satisfy us
Before the day has passed us by
Before our hearts forget all your goodness
Satisfy us with your love
And it concludes by saying:
Before our hearts give up
Spirit fill us
Satisfy us with your love.
I was touched by this because I have again seen the fickleness of my own heart—how quickly I forget all the love and good the Lord has done for me. I've seen afresh my heart "prone to wander,"2 as the hymnist put it. This song, and the Scripture it is based on, reminded me again that I can pray for God to do in my heart what my heart is too weak to do on its own. I long to be satisfied in the love of God, but so often I am not. But that's not the end of the story. The Spirit has been poured out to us and He has the power and might to satisfy our deepest desires with the love of God.
May we not be apathetic about the dullness of our own hearts, but instead may we pray that the Spirit would work deep joy and satisfaction in our inner being. May God be seen as wonderful when the world sees our satisfaction in His goodness and love.
I pray this song is a blessing to you. There are several versions out there on Apple Music and other platforms if you are interested.
