We’ve got it all wrong! Money is not the root of all evil. Love of money is the root of all evil. In a world where money helps, money corrupts and money unites, it can be hard to understand how not to be ruled by it! However, Jesus said a very interesting thing: We can either serve money or we can serve God, but we cannot serve both. How are we to live in the world, yet stand apart from it in regard to our finances? We are to be spiritually rich toward God, not rich in possessions and in material resources. Working hard in our culture isn’t an ideal that we hold to these days. Work is a way to make a mortgage payment, or it’s saving up for retirement, or it’s that next big vacation or newest gadget you’re wanting. However, in light of eternity, how is a believer supposed to work? What needs to change in our attitudes and thoughts in order to glorify God? Work and worship are one and the same, and in God’s eyes you cannot do one without the other. We are to be people of order and fruitfulness, and working hard for the Lord will show the world that there is joy to be found in daily labor—what a beautiful way we can shine as lights in a dark world!
